Our medical oncologists, surgeons, nurse specialists, and other doctors and support staff with expertise in breast and gynecologic cancer work side by side every day. At weekly Tumor Board meetings, experts from multiple disciplines review cases that require more complex recommendations to understand and treat your unique needs.

The Gynecologic Cancer Program offers an array of surgical, medical, and integrative medicine therapies to treat all types of gynecologic cancers, including uterine, ovarian, cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers. Our leading-edge technology and full range of supportive care help you through each stage of treatment.
Hereditary Cancer Genetics Program
The Hereditary Cancer Genetics Program provides genetic counseling and prevention planning for individuals concerned about an inherited predisposition for cancer. We are nationally recognized for our expertise in assessing a woman’s risk for breast and gynecologic cancer.
Tumor Genomic Profiling Program
The Tumor Genomic Profiling Program analyzes the genome of a person’s cancer to identify new targets for anti-cancer drugs. In the case of all ovarian cancers, triple-negative breast cancer, and persistent or relapsed cancer, we customize treatment to the specific genetic profile of each woman’s tumor.

The potential opportunity to participate in a clinical trial is among the benefits of treatment at Stanford. The Gynecologic Cancer and Breast Cancer Programs have more than a dozen open trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently recruiting participants or that may recruit participants in the near future. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but similar studies may open in the future.

Research to Advance the Standard of Care
The Stanford Women’s Cancer Center is part of the Stanford Cancer Institute, a collaborative Stanford Medicine enterprise made up of Stanford Health Care, Stanford University School of Medicine and Stanford Children’s Health.
With expertise in the basic and clinical sciences, Stanford doctors and researchers are delving into the origins of breast and gynecologic cancers and in turn translating their findings into the most advanced diagnostic and treatment strategies available today.
Areas of research:
- Immunotherapies for ovarian and other cancers, including therapies that program a woman’s immune cells to attack her cancer cells, and a new type of drugs called checkpoint inhibitors, which have been effective in treating melanoma and certain tumors.
- New approaches for preventing treatment resistance in breast and gynecologic cancers
- The largest-ever comprehensive genomic analysis of women with breast cancer, revealing 10 major groups of women with distinct clinical outcomes
- A new class of powerful anti-cancer drugs, PARP inhibitors, to target specific molecular pathways that are highly active in women with hereditary cancer
- Early screening for ovarian cancer using biomarkers that can be detected through a simple blood test
- Studies into the behavior of cancer stem cells responsible for a cancer’s growth to identify new therapeutic targets
